Registration on Etsy

Etsy is a popular online marketplace that specializes in the sale of handmade items, vintage goods, and unique factory products. For Ukrainians, the opportunity to open a shop appeared at the end of 2023, after a temporary ban. So let's not miss the chance to enter the international arena and become successful.

We will guide you step-by-step through the registration process of your shop on Etsy so that you can feel confident in your actions.

Make sure you already have an account set up with the Payoneer payment system, as Etsy requires sellers to have an international payment method for processing transactions. If you do not have a Payoneer account yet, we recommend reading our article 'Registration in Payoneer – The First Step to Creating a Shop on Etsy' which will assist you with this.

  1. On the Etsy website, click "Sign in". First, register as a buyer. We recommend creating a separate Google account for Etsy to ensure you don’t miss any emails from the platform.
  2. Go through the registration in the way that is most convenient for you. We recommend choosing registration via a Google account.

  • In your account, select the 'Sell on Etsy' option. Now we proceed with registration as a seller.

  • Be sure to familiarize yourself with the Etsy rules – as this is an important part of working on the platform. Ignorance of Etsy's rules does not exempt you from the possibility of receiving a ban.

Next, you will encounter an optional survey from Etsy. Choose the option that best suits you, or skip the survey.

Etsy offers you to choose topics that interest you for further message distribution related to these topics. You can select as many topics as you like.

  • We choose the settings for your shop.

When opening the shop, we target the international market, so we select: shop language - English, shop country - Ukraine, shop currency - dollars.

  • Choosing a shop name.

Choose a name that reflects the essence of your products and is easy to remember. Please note that Etsy does not allow the use of spaces in names, so if your name consists of two or three words, list them together, but capitalize the first letter of each word.

  • Completing the first listing.

At this stage, you need to choose the product category and answer a few questions: who made the item, whether it is physical or digital, whether it is a finished product, and when it was made.

The second window in this section asks for more information about the product, as well as to upload photos and videos of the product. Later, you will have the opportunity to edit or supplement the provided information in the created store.

  • How will you receive payments from buyers?

For this part of the process, we have set up an account with the Payoneer payment system. Because when you select Ukraine, there is no other option for receiving payments besides Payoneer. Connect your account to Etsy.

  • How will we pay Etsy?

In this section, we link our currency card to the account from which funds will be automatically deducted for listing placements and advertising on the Etsy platform.

  • The final point - Shop Security.

At this stage, you will receive security codes for your Etsy shop. Keep it safe, as it will be shown only once.
